Born in Johannesburg, South Africa

Member of ArtCan Arts Organisation - an arts organisation which enables artists to sustain their practice

Mirella Bandini is an emerging artist working primarily in ceramics, often coupled with or inspired by found objects. She has an inherent love of rusty metal, gnarled wood and cotton thread, and these elements weave their way into her pieces. She follows an intuitive process of making - a communion between clay and the human hand, and her pieces are frequently figurative in nature with a deeply emotive quality.

Mirella is always looking for new avenues to explore and her current preoccupation involves 'doodling' about everyday occurrences and emotions. She translates these drawings into linocut prints in collaboration with other artists - a practice that she finds invaluable in her ongoing  search for opportunities to learn and challenge herself.

Her landscape architectural education and South African heritage emerge as generators in her work and contribute to the underlying emotion. She currently resides in beautiful west Dorset which provides endless inspiration, and her affiliation with ArtCan (an organisation which enables artists to sustain their practice) has opened a number of new doors and provided significant opportunities for growth.
